Horse Boarding Amenities

Bleachers as horse boarding amenities

Bleachers and viewing areas are excellent horse boarding amenities because they give visitors a place to stop and watch lessons, training sessions, shows and other events.

Houston is the perfect example city for horse boarding business owners. There are dozens upon dozens of stables here, each of which offers similar amenities to every other. So how do you stay on top in Houston? You offer horse boarding extras.

This is true for any horse business location, but particularly for large metropolitan areas where competition is fierce. Your goal is to bring in as many boarders as possible, and you do this by making your service more attractive to horse owners.

Hedging Your Bets

Adding horse boarding extras to your list of amenities doesn’t have to empty your bank account. In order to run a smart horse business, you need to choose amenities that won’t compromise your budget but will nonetheless impress potential clients.

Indeed, you can add some equine amenities for which you charge your clients extra. They will see it as a bonus simply because it is offered, and they can choose whether or not to take advantage of it.

In case you didn’t know, horse owners like options.

My advice is to make a list of the horse boarding amenities you think your clients would appreciate. Then, with a trusty calculator and ledger, figure out how much each would cost and whether or not it would be appropriate for your horse business.

Types of Horse Boarding Amenities

Even the simplest things can draw horse owners to your facility. It’s time to think outside the box (and the wallet) to determine how you can best please your clients.

You might want to offer horse boarding amenities like:

  • De-worming your clients’ horses
  • Turn-out service
  • Twice-daily mucking
  • Unlimited hay consumption
  • Lights in the arenas
  • Covered arena
  • Round pen (covered round pen, even)
  • Tack lockers with padlocks
  • Wash stalls and stocks
  • 24-hour security
  • Access to basic veterinary supplies
  • Horse trainer and riding instructor on staff
  • Access to trailers for transportation
  • Drainage system for arenas
  • Dragging/watering of arenas
  • Bleachers/viewing area for arena
  • Indoor climate-controlled rec room

These are just a few of the horse boarding amenities you might want to offer, and the list goes on from there. Use your imagination and look for a follow up post on becoming a horse boarding concierge next week.

I have another suggestion for an added amenity for horse boarders. The farm owner could offer their boarders a log in account which would allow them to view the daily billable and unbillable maintenance care provided on the farm for their boarder.

I have such a software and it also provides log ins for the staff so they can also update the customer on the care of the horse. What is really nice about this software is that because it is a service to the boarding customer, the farm owner can add a couple dollars to the monthly board and the software will pay for itself and in some cases bring in farm revenue.

I offer a 15-day free trial; I guarantee the boarders are going to love it and tell others what a great service it is for them.
